The biggest e-commerce month of the year is here. All your preparations, investments, and inventory are geared towards making the most of the last 31 days of the year. Your online shop is ready to deliver profits. So let’s see how you can make the most of this month!
Ordinary and not-so-ordinary e-commerce days in December
There are plenty of opportunities – aside from the obvious ones – to make your online presence or online shop stand out from the crowd. Here’s a list of internationally celebrated days to boost your e-commerce in December.
December 1 is World Computer Literacy Day. Definitely an important day for you, as you wouldn’t be in (online) business otherwise! Does your online shop offer computers, peripherals, courses, or anything else related to computer literacy?
December 3 is International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Highlight colleagues with disabilities and their contributions to the business. Showcase the way your company is making inroads towards more inclusion and acceptance, and make sure your online shop caters to people with disabilities, i.e. read-aloud functions.
World Wildlife Conservation Day is on December 4. How about this idea: Your online shop could offer adoption vouchers for endangered species for those struggling to find a meaningful Christmas gift for people who already have everything.
December 5 offers a variety of marketing options for your online shop: there’s the International Ninja Day – perfect for some tongue-in-cheek marketing, International Volunteer Day, and – let’s not forget: St. Nicholas Eve for the kids.
December 7 is International Civil Aviation Day – a great opportunity if your business deals with e.g. foreign travel or holidays. Talk about the origins of civil aviation, name some of the historical figures and build a campaign around them.
Bodhi Day is on December 8. Also known as Rohatsu, this Buddhist holiday honors the day in which the Buddha – Siddartha Gautauma – is said to have achieved enlightenment. Many Buddhists celebrate it through meditation.
December 9 is the International Day of Veterinary Medicine. Combine a promotion for the cutest pet with the holiday theme to get your customers to send in pictures of their pets via your social media channels!
December 14 is World Monkey Day – another opportunity to promote species preservation or to get your customers to share moments of them “monkeying around” 😉
December 15 is International Tea Day – your online shop could offer some gift-sized rare or scented teas, maybe with a personalized mug as a special offer?
December 20 is International Human Solidarity Day. Needless to say, there are many conflicts around the world, where people need our support and solidarity. We are sure you can think of many marketing ideas to highlight this auspicious day so close to Christmas with an e-commerce campaign to suit your business.
December 24 and 25 are Christmas Eve and Christmas Day respectively. The culmination of all your e-commerce strategies, the days everyone in e-commerce works toward all year round.
December 26 is Boxing Day, the end of Christmas and also marks the start of Kwanzaa. Kwanzaa is an African-American holiday celebrating black heritage.
The holiday lasts for seven days beginning on December 26th. The name Kwanzaa is derived from the Swahili phrase “Mantunde ya kwanza” which translates as “the first fruits”. The second “a” was added to give the name seven letters to symbolize the seven symbols, the seven principles, and the seven days of Kwanzaa.
Last, but by no means least: December 31 is New Year’s Eve. Millions around the world set New Year’s resolutions, take up gym memberships, want to live healthier in the new year, or seek personal improvements by a variety of means – your e-commerce presence can offer perfect choices for the year to come!
Important e-commerce events in December
There are a few interesting events taking place in December that could help build your online presence, improve your sales strategy going forward, or simply convey some tips and tricks for more customer satisfaction in 2025.
The B2B Service Management Strategy Summit 2024 will be held in Berlin on December 3 – 4 and focuses on the transformation from product to solutions provider in the B2B sector. The summit’s main emphasis lies on the role of service management in fostering customer relationships and integrating AI solutions. It seeks to explore business innovation, customer needs, and revenue generation through digital tools and innovative business models.
The Customer Service Excellence Course is a workshop held in London between December 1 and 5, with further iterations in Barcelona on Dec. 9, Amsterdam on Dec. 16, and Paris on Dec. 22. If you are new to offering customer service – online or offline – this course will offer information and assistance with many issues.
Bottom line
So here we are – another year done. But of course, your business needs and wants to thrive next year as well. You may already be eyeing things that you feel need some improvement in your online presence going forward. Is your online shop dynamic enough to satisfy customer expectations? Are you ready to take the leap and explore new markets? Does your online presence need a bit of a facelift? Do you feel that your shop system just isn’t scalable enough anymore to move forward? It may be time to talk to experts about how your online or e-commerce presence could be improved in the new year!
In any case, we want to wish you an amazing December with great sales and hope that our suggestions may help in some small way.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year!
