The Global WordPress Translation Day is a one-day contributor initiative of the WordPress Polyglots team, dedicated to support new people who would like to translate WordPress into one of more than 160 languages WordPress is available in.

The 2. Global WordPress Translation Day will take place on Saturday, November 12th, starting at 0:00 UTC and will go on for 24 hours covering all time zones.

Why should I participate?

Translating WordPress and all its plugins and themes into dozens of languages and many more regions is a huge job. The WordPress Polyglots team is mainly community-driven and thus needs your help as a native speaker. If you are using WordPress (or even if you don’t) and want to tune up your translation skills, just give it a try! It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or experienced WordPress user!

The Global WordPress Translation Day is the perfect event to introduce you to the whole idea, the projects and the community.

What’s going on?

There will be live training sessions streaming 24 hours, containing tutorials about translating WordPress into different languages including general instructions and specifications for your particular language. You can find the session schedule on the website.

There will also be some local and remote translation contributor days, where you can jump right in and contribute with your first translations, led by experienced WordPress translators and i18n experts.

How can I get involved?

Just head to wptranslationday.org and fill out the form – you will be added to the participants list and get all the information you need. Make sure to check out translate.wordpress.org too, where you can find all the information you need to start contributing today – or anytime you want.

There are also local events taking place all over the world, with interested parties getting together to translate, share ideas, follow the live stream and to simply have fun. One of these events is being held in Würzburg at the offices of Eurotext AG. For more information and to register, go to: WP Meetup Würzburg

About WordPress

WordPress started in 2003 with a single bit of code to enhance the typography of everyday writing and with fewer users than you can count on your fingers and toes. Since then it has grown to be the largest self-hosted blogging tool in the world, used on millions of sites and seen by tens of millions of people every day.

Everything you see here, from the documentation to the code itself, was created by and for the community. WordPress is an Open Source project, which means there are hundreds of people all over the world working on it. It also means that you are free to use it for anything you want: from your recipe site to a Fortune 500 website – without paying anyone a license fee! Plus a number of other freedoms!
