Let\u2019s take a look at which holidays and events retailers should keep an eye on in August.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Holidays &amp; observances<\/h2>\n<h3>International Beer Day<\/h3>\n<p>On the <strong>first Friday of August<\/strong>, you may find \u201cCheers for Beer Day\u201d or \u201cHappy International Beer Day\u201d merchandise in your local bar, supermarket or liquor store. <strong>International Beer Day came about in 2007 in Santa Cruz, California, to celebrate the craft of brewing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Today, Beer Day toasts to bartenders and other beer technicians as well. This is a wonderful opportunity for beer manufacturers to get creative \u2013 not only in countries famous for their beer, such as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/eurotext.de\/en\/blog\/the-e-commerce-market-in-germany-what-businesses-need-to-know\/\">Germany<\/a><\/strong> or the<strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eurotext.de\/en\/blog\/e-commerce-in-the-czech-republic\/\">Czech Republic<\/a><\/strong>, but also microbreweries all over the world. <em>Bottoms up!<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>August 25<sup>th<\/sup>: National Secondhand Wardrobe Day (USA)<\/h3>\n<p>As sustainability becomes a more and more pressing issue in our modern world, thrifting is a popular go-to option for shoppers.<\/p>\n<p>The benefits of buying pre-loved clothes and accessories include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Finding a unique gem that\u2019s no longer available anywhere else.<\/li>\n<li>Supporting a mom-and-pop shop or local charity with your purchase.<\/li>\n<li>Shopping for non-trend items that may last longer and have a lower \u201ccost per wear\u201d than their fast fashion counterparts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Remember: Sustainability doesn\u2019t go out of style! Thrift stores across the US, online and off, can make use of this day in their email marketing and social media promotions.<\/p>\n<h2>Goodbye, summer!<\/h2>\n<p>In the Northern Hemisphere, August tends to be the hottest month of the year. So don\u2019t forget to wear sunscreen!<\/p>\n<p>Other popular consumer products for online retailers to promote in August are very similar to the ones we mention in our <a href=\"https:\/\/eurotext.de\/en\/blog\/e-commerce-in-june\/\">June<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/eurotext.de\/en\/blog\/e-commerce-in-july\/\">July<\/a> e-commerce blogs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>BBQ food and equipment<\/li>\n<li>travel gadgets<\/li>\n<li>camping and van gear (#VanLife)<\/li>\n<li>gardening tools and accessories<\/li>\n<li>summer clothes, including festival outfits<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You may want to consider selling these types of summer goods in bundles to make room for next season\u2019s stock. A BBQ bundle, for example, could be made up of an outdoor grill, a pair of tongs, oven gloves and coal.<\/p>\n<h2>Back to school<\/h2>\n<p>September is back-to-school time! And that means August is when parents and school or college kids are looking for last-minute deals on school supplies. According to a 2022 National Retail Federation survey, the most popular back-to-school products were electronics, clothing, shoes and general school supplies.<\/p>\n<p>Back-to-school season is the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> biggest retail period, right after winter and related end-of-year sales. Plus, most back-to-school items are still valued highly \u2013 <em>essential<\/em> even \u2013 despite the ongoing 2023 inflation. Parents are happy to spend an extra buck to make sure their children go back to school with high-quality items, and that includes buying new.<\/p>\n<p>Office supply stores and the like are advised to take advantage of this big sales opportunity. One idea to do is to help children and their parents with their long shopping lists by offering bundles or making content marketing part of their sales strategy.
